The 1603 London plague epidemic was the first of the 17th century and marked the transition from the Tudor to the Stuart period.
While sources vary as to the exact number of people killed, around one-fifth of London's population is estimated to have died. While the plague affected all parts of the city, it disproportionately impacted London's poorer parishes.
