Two-time defending champion Billie Jean King defeated Judy Tegart in the final, 9–7, 7–5 to win the ladies' singles tennis title at the 1968 Wimbledon Championships. It was her third Wimbledon singles title and fifth major singles title overall. It was the first edition of Wimbledon open to professional tennis players, marking a period in tennis history known as the Open Era.
