The 2012 season was the New York Giants' 88th in the National Football League (NFL), their ninth under head coach Tom Coughlin and their third playing home games at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The Giants began the 2012 season as defending Super Bowl champions for the fourth time in their history, by virtue of their 21–17 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI. The Giants finished 9–7 for the second straight year, but failed to make the playoffs. Like in 2011, the Giants went 3–5 after a 6–2 start. The 2012 Giants were the first defending Super Bowl champions to miss the playoffs since the 2009 Steelers.
