The 2016 Bukit Batok by-election was conducted to replace the vacant seat after the incumbent MP, David Ong, resigned due to an extramarital affair. It concluded on 7 May 2016 and was the 13th of its kind since Singapore's independence.
On 7 May, People's Action Party's candidate Murali Pillai was declared Member of Parliament-elect for Bukit Batok SMC, winning 61.23% of the vote. This was the last contested election of any kind in Singapore until 2025 where Polling Day fell on a Saturday. Murali was sworn into Parliament two days later.
