The 2021–22 Washington Capitals season was the 48th season for the National Hockey League franchise that was established on June 11, 1974. On April 17, 2022, the Capitals clinched a playoff spot after the New York Islanders lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The eighth-seeded Capitals were defeated in the first round by the Presidents' Trophy-winning Florida Panthers in six games.
