The 2022 season was the Los Angeles Chargers' 53rd in the National Football League (NFL), their 63rd overall, their seventh in the Greater Los Angeles Area, their third playing their home games at SoFi Stadium and their second under head coach Brandon Staley.

The Chargers improved on their 9–8 record from the previous year after a Week 17 win over the Los Angeles Rams. After the Chargers beat the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16, the Chargers clinched a playoff berth for the first time since 2018, their first playoff appearance without Philip Rivers or Drew Brees since 1995 when they were in San Diego. In the Wild Card round, despite amassing a 27–0 lead during the second quarter, the Chargers collapsed in the second half of the game, losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars 31–30 on a last-second field goal. It was the third largest blown lead in NFL postseason history, behind the 1992 Houston Oilers and 2013 Kansas City Chiefs, and it is the biggest blown lead in the history of the Chargers, which was the first time since 2009 that the Chargers went one-and-done and their first Wild Card playoff loss since 2004.
