Ahmad al-Suwaydani (Arabic: أحمد سويداني; 1932–1994) was the Syrian Army's chief of staff from 1966 to 1968. He was best known for uncovering Israeli spy Eli Cohen’s plan. Before that he had been the chief of military intelligence in 1963–1965 and the head of the bureau of military personnel in 1965–1966. He was dismissed and imprisoned for suspicions of plotting a coup in 1968. In 1994 he was released and died shortly after.
