Alcántara (Spanish: [alˈkan.ta.ɾa] ⓘ) is a municipality in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain, on the Tagus, near Portugal. The toponym is from the Arabic word al-Qanṭarah (القنطرة) meaning "the bridge".
