Böszörmény
Böszörmény, also Izmaelita or Hysmaelita ("Ishmaelites") or Szerecsen ("Saracens"), is a name for the Muslims who lived in Hungary from its foundation at the end of the 9th century until the end of the 13th century. The Böszörmény were a significant part of the federation of the seven Hungarian tribes.
Over time, this community was joined by smaller groups of Muslim settlers. They were primarily engaged in trading and finance, but some were employed as mercenaries by the kings of Hungary. Their rights were gradually restricted from the establishment of the Christian Kingdom of Hungary in the 11th century. Nonetheless, they maintained a significant presence into the 13th century, but gradually "disappeared" by the end of the 13th century following the Mongol invasions of Hungary, with many likely becoming Christian and/or later converting to Bektashism.
