Bessonovsky District (Russian: Бессо́новский райо́н) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the twenty-seven in Penza Oblast, Russia. It is located in the center of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,249 square kilometers (482 sq mi). Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Bessonovka. Population: 45,296 (2010 Census); 41,647 (2002 Census); 45,515 (1989 Soviet census). The population of Bessonovka accounts for 25.2% of the district's total population.
