Brisbane Powerhouse
The Brisbane Powerhouse is a performing arts and cultural centre which is housed in a former power station in the Brisbane suburb of New Farm in Queensland, Australia. The venue offers an array of live performances, visual art displays, exhibitions, festivals, and free community events.
The first stage of the New Farm Powerhouse was built in 1927–28 as part of the growing need for electricity to supply the Brisbane Trams. The powerhouse began operations in 1928, and was decommissioned in 1971. It was subsequently renovated and re-opened as a modern entertainment hub in 2000.
