It is located five nautical miles (6 mi, 9 km) southwest of the central business district of Cape Girardeau, a city in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri, United States. The airport is used for general aviation, and has scheduled service by Contour Airlines with subsidized Essential Air Service program flights to Chicago O’Hare Airport.
It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, which categorized it as a commercial service - nonprimary airport based on passenger enplanements (the commercial service category requires at least 2,500 enplanements per year).
