Chernobyl Diaries is a 2012 American horror thriller film co-written and produced by Oren Peli and directed by Brad Parker, in his directorial debut. The film stars Jonathan Sadowski, Jesse McCartney, Devin Kelley, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Nathan Phillips, and Dimitri Diatchenko, and was shot on locations in Pripyat, Ukraine, as well as Hungary, and Serbia.
Chernobyl Diaries was theatrically released on May 25, 2012, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film received generally negative reviews from critics and audience for its clichéd formula, characters, special effects and disrespectful to the real events, but some praised its premise and atmosphere. Despite this, it was a moderate box office success, grossing $37 million worldwide with a budget of $1 million.
