Chief Surgeon of the Metropolitan Police

Chief Surgeon of the Metropolitan Police was a post created in 1865 to oversee the healthcare of officers of the Metropolitan Police.

It was a renaming of the post of Superintending Surgeon of the Metropolitan Police held by John William Fisher from 1830 until 1865. It was itself renamed Physician and Chief Medical Officer of the Metropolitan Police from 1926 to 1957 before reverting to Chief Surgeon until 1978, when it became Chief Medical Officer of the Metropolitan Police.
