Demidovsky District (Russian: Деми́довский райо́н) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the twenty-five in Smolensk Oblast, Russia. It is located in the northwest of the oblast and borders with Zharkovsky District of Tver Oblast in the north, Velizhsky District in the northwest, Rudnyansky District in the southwest, Smolensky District in the south, and with Dukhovshchinsky District in the east. The area of the district is 2,514.02 square kilometers (970.67 sq mi). Its administrative center is the town of Demidov. Population: 14,039 (2010 Census); 18,167(2002 Census); 24,237(1989 Soviet census). The population of Demidov accounts for 52.2% of the district's total population.
