Dibrugarh (Assamese: [dibɹʊ.ɡɔ(ɹ)]) is a city in the Indian state of Assam, located 435 kms east of the state capital Dispur. It serves as the headquarters of the Dibrugarh district in Upper Assam. Dibrugarh also serves as the headquarters of the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council, which is the governing council of the Sonowal Kachari tribe (found predominantly in the district). The historic town of Dibrugarh was formally announced as the second city of Assam on 7 March 2024 with the formation of the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation by dissolving the municipal board.
