Falaise (French pronunciation: [falɛz] ⓘ) is a commune in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France. The town is famous for being the birthplace of William the Conqueror. It was also the centre of the area known as the Falaise pocket, the decisive engagement of the Battle of Normandy in the Second World War.
