Hippocampus (mythology)
The hippocampus, or hippocamp or hippokampos (plural: hippocampi or hippocamps; Ancient Greek: ἱππόκαμπος, from ἵππος, 'horse', and κάμπος, 'sea monster'), sometimes called a "sea-horse" in English, is a mythological creature mentioned in Etruscan, Greek, Phoenician, Pictish and Roman mythologies (though its name has a clear Greek origin), typically depicted as having the upper body of a horse with the lower body of a fish.
