Housing crisis in the United States
Since the 2020s, the United States has faced a growing shortage of housing. The scope and effect of the housing crisis depends on the affected region or segment of the population. The housing shortage has been cited as a major factor in inflation in the US. Artificial scarcity in the supply of housing, due to NIMBYism, has been a significant factor in making housing more expensive. Freddie Mac estimated that the shortage of homes increased by 52%, to 3.8 million units, between 2018 and 2020.
