John D. Payne (b. 1979 or 1980) and Patrick McKay (b. 1980 or 1981) are an American screenwriting duo. They are best known for developing the Amazon Prime Video fantasy drama series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, based on the history of Middle-earth by English author J. R. R. Tolkien.
