John Peter Spyros Sarbanes (/ˈsɑːrbeɪnz/ SAR-baynz; born May 22, 1962) is an American lawyer and politician who served as the U.S. representative for Maryland's 3rd congressional district from 2007 to 2025. He is a member of the Democratic Party. The district includes Annapolis, the entirety of Howard County, and parts of Anne Arundel and Carroll counties.
