Küçükçekmece (Turkish: [cyˈtʃyc.tʃec.me.dʒe]; meaning “small-drawer”, from much earlier Rhegion (Greek: Ρήγιον) and Küçükçökmece as “little breakdown" or “little depression”, in more ancient times just as Bathonea), is a municipality and district of Istanbul Province, Turkey. Its area is 44 km2, and its population was 326,452 in 2022. It is 23 kilometers west of the city centre and lies next to Lake Küçükçekmece.
