Maharaj Kumari Binodini Devi (6 February 1922 – 17 January 2011) was a writer from Manipur, and was seen as bridging the two worlds of ancient royalty and modern art. Born into palace life as a princess, a theme she later explored in her essays, she gained national and international recognition as a novelist, short-story writer, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, lyricist, and ballet scriptwriter. She received the Padma Shri in 1976. Her 1976 historical novel Boro Saheb Ongbi Sanatombi won the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1979. The book's English translation, The Princess and the Political Agent, was published in 2020 as a Penguin Modern Classic by Penguin Random House India.
