McNally is an Irish surname. It is the Anglicized form of Mac Conallaidh 'son of Cú Allaidh', a Gaelic name meaning the 'wild hound', i.e. 'wolf'.
Prevalent in Ulster counties Antrim, Armagh, Monaghan and Tyrone, the McNally family is a sept of the Northern Ó Néill's Cenél nEógain. In Ulster it is unrelated to the Mayo family Mac an Fhailghigh ("son of the poor man").
