Nagqu Horse Racing Festival
The Nagqu Horse Racing Festival (Chinese: 那曲赛马节, 恰青赛马节; Tibetan: ནག་ཆུ་རྟ་རྒྱུག་དུས་སྟོན), held annually in August in Nagqu City (formerly Nagqu Prefecture), Tibet Autonomous Region, China, is one of the largest nomadic cultural events on the Tibetan Plateau. Originating from ancient Tibetan military training and religious rituals, the festival was formalized in 1993 by local authorities to preserve pastoral traditions and boost regional tourism.
