Nikephoros Bryennios the Elder (Greek: Νικηφόρος Βρυέννιος), Latinized as Nicephorus Bryennius, was a Byzantine Greek general who tried to establish himself as Emperor in the late eleventh century. His contemporaries considered him the best tactician in the empire.
