Nilphamari (Bengali: নীলফামারী) is a city of Nilphamari District in Rangpur Division of Bangladesh. It is one of the major cities of Northern Bangladesh and headquarters of the district. The city started its journey in 1875 after formation of Mohokuma/Sub-Division Office of Nilphamari at Shakhamacha Hat on the bank of Bamondanga River. The city got its name from its Mohokuma/district name “Nilphamari”, the cultural name of this region.
