Ōharae no Kotoba

Ōharae no Kotoba (Japanese: 大祓のことば) is a norito (Shinto prayer or ceremonial chant) used in certain Shinto rituals. It is also known as Nakatomi Saimon, or simply Nakatomi Exorcism, as it was originally recited during the Ōharae-shiki ceremony, for which the Nakatomi clan was solely responsible. A well-known example appears in the Engishiki, Volume 8, under the title "New Year's Eve Exorcism." In general, the term "Daihōirishi" refers to the words proclaimed to the participants of the ritual, while "Nakatomi Hōrai" denotes a modified version recited before the shrine or gods.
