Patito Feo (in English, Ugly Duckling) is an Argentine telenovela produced by Ideas del Sur that aired in first run on Canal 13 from 2007 to 2008. Following the show's success in Argentina and its impact on audiences, particularly among children and adolescents, its broadcast rights were purchased by Disney Channel and broadcast internationally between 2007 and 2011 in more than 50 countries across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The show garnered high ratings and became a global phenomenon despite receiving mixed reviews from critics.
Set in the prestigious Pretty Land School of Arts in Buenos Aires, this telenovela follows the rivalry between two elite teen girl groups: Las Populares, known for their vibrant, fun-loving style and led by Patito Castro (Laura Esquivel), and Las Divinas, the epitome of glamour and diva essence, led by Antonella Lamas Bernardi (Brenda Asnicar). As they vie for dominance, both groups face off in a high-stakes music competition hosted by the most influential record label in America, in search of the next breakout star.
