Peine (German pronunciation: [ˈpaɪnə] ⓘ; Eastphalian: Paane) is a town in Lower Saxony, Germany, capital of the district Peine. It is situated on the river Fuhse and the Mittellandkanal, approximately 25 km (16 mi) west of Braunschweig, 27 km (17 mi) northeast of Hildesheim, and 40 km (25 mi) east of Hanover.
