Special Operations Regiment (Thailand)

The Royal Thai Air Force Special Operations Regiment or Air Force Commando (Thai: กรมปฏิบัติการพิเศษ หน่วยบัญชาการอากาศโยธิน) is the only special forces unit of the RTAF Security Force Command's Special Combat Operations Squadron, which has been in existence since late 1975. It's part of Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF), they are based near Don Mueang International Airport and provide anti-aircraft hijacking capabilities, clandestine and covert operations, collecting and interpret meteorology data for military intelligence purposes, combat search and rescue, commando style raids, executive protection, forward air control, hostage rescue, irregular warfare, long-range penetration, maneuver warfare, medical evacuation, providing security at air bases or international airports, special reconnaissance, and tactical emergency medical services.

Although it is the only special forces unit of the Royal Thai Air Force, its members never call themselves special forces operators, but they call themselves 'Commando'.

In cases of terrorism within the Royal Thai Air Force's areas of responsibility, command authority shifts to the Counter Terrorist Operations Center (CTOC) under the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters (RTARF HQ), which previously operated from the RTAF Security Force Command. However, the Special Operations Regiment is one of the five main units responsible for international counterterrorism and hostage rescue of the Counter Terrorist Operations Center.
