Carpenter wrote it with songwriters Julia Michaels and Amy Allen and its producers John Ryan and Ian Kirkpatrick, with Julian Bunetta also contributing to production. Musically, "Taste" has been labeled as a combination of various pop and rock subgenres. Commercially, the song reached number one in Australia, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, as well as the top ten in fourteen additional countries, including the United States, where it peaked at number two. It also peaked at number two on the Billboard Global 200 chart.
