Tennis in Russia

Tennis is a prominent sport in the Russian Federation, ranking approximately third in popularity after association football and ice hockey. For a long time, tennis held a marginal position among the local sports as it was not an Olympic sport. In September 2009, the main Russian National Tennis Centre, named after Juan Antonio Samaranch, was established in Moscow, the capital of the country at the time.
