The Expansion of England
The Expansion of England: Two Courses of Lectures is a book by English historian John Robert Seeley about the growth of the British Empire, first published in 1883. Seeley argued that British colonial expansion was based on its victories over France during the early 18th century, and that the Dominions were critical to British power. He also stated that holding onto British India might not be beneficial to Britain in the long run. The book was a popular success in the UK, and several historians have stated that it had great impact upon British imperial thinking.
