It was released as the album's lead single on December 21, 2018, by Sony and Eternal. "Ugly Beauty" was written by Rhys Fletcher, Stan Dubb, Richard Craker, Tsai, Starr Chen, Jennifer Hung, and Greeny Wu, whilst production was handled by Starr Chen and Tsai. Musically, it is a pop song that utilizes electronic, hip-hop, and trap elements, while its lyrics revolve around themes of societal beauty standards and self-acceptance.
"Ugly Beauty" received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who praised its lyrical content and composition. It saw commercial success after it was released, reaching number one on the Billboard China Top 100 chart.
