The municipality has a population of 1,839 (31 March 2025) and covers an area of 569.80 square kilometres (220.00 sq mi) of which 147.1 km2 (56.8 sq mi), or 26%, is water. The population density is 4.35 inhabitants per square kilometre (11.3/sq mi).
