Yogyakarta International Airport (IATA: YIA, ICAO: WAHI) is an international airport in the Temon district of Kulon Progo Regency, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. About 45 km (28 mi) from the city of Yogyakarta, the airport is the primary gateway to the Yogyakarta Special Region; nearby Central Javan cities such as Purworejo, Kebumen, Cilacap, and Magelang; and popular tourist destinations such as Borobudur Temple. YIA offers domestic flights to major Indonesian cities such as Jakarta, Denpasar, Balikpapan, and Makassar; and international routes to Malaysia, Singapore, and other destinations. It is operated by InJourney Airports, formerly Angkasa Pura I.
The largest of the region's three airports, YIA was developed to supplant the overcapacity Adisutjipto Airport, which could not be expanded due to limited land and its proximity to Yogyakarta city center. (The third airport is the exclusively military Gading Airfield in Wonosari, Gunung Kidul Regency.) Partial operations began on 6 May 2019 with the arrival of a Citilink flight from Jakarta's Halim Perdanakusuma International Airport. Full operations began on 29 March 2020, when all jetliner flights moved from the old airport.
