The film revolves around newlyweds Carl and Molly Peterson (Dillon and Hudson). After Carl's best man and best friend, Randolph "Randy" Dupree (Wilson), loses his job and home, the couple allows him to move in, but Dupree overstays his welcome. Protective father Bob Thompson (Douglas) begins to dislike son-in-law Carl and works against him.
