Platysulcus tardus (from Latin platy 'wide' and sulcus 'furrow') is a eukaryotic microorganism that was recently discovered to be the earliest diverging lineage of the stramenopile phylogenetic tree. It is the only member of the family Platysulcidae, order Platysulcida and class Platysulcea.
