WRUF (850 kHz) is an AM radio station that operates from the University of Florida's main campus in Gainesville. It is a sports radio station that primarily covers Florida Gators athletics. Unlike its public broadcasting sister stations, WUFT TV and WUFT-FM, WRUF and WRUF-FM 103.7 are commercial stations supported by advertising.
WRUF is powered at 5,000 watts. By day, it is non-directional. But at night, to protect other stations from interference on 850 AM including Class A KOA Denver, WRUF uses a directional antenna with a four-tower array. The transmitter is on NW 75th Street at SW 8th Avenue in Gainesville. Programming is also heard on 250-watt FM translator W251CG at 98.1 MHz.
